Born in the hills of Chin State, Myanmar, he rose from humble beginnings to become a student leader in the historic 1988 pro-democracy uprising.After enduring imprisonment, exile, and years of statelessness, Dr. Hein rebuilt his life across Asia-working as a laborer, teacher, translator, and policy advisor. He earned advanced degrees including a Ph.D., and later served as the CEO of Myanmar's first successful Special Economic Zone (Thilawa SEZ). His leadership has been recognized across Southeast Asia and beyond, especially for his role in promoting foreign investment, sustainable development, and federal democratic reform.He is also the founder of various community organizations, president of the Chin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and an ordained church leader.
