This edition of this classic adventure story would have helped readers by offering a glossary of archaic English words (such as "glim", "tarry gaskin", "blunt", or "moidore") rather than a 'creative' foreword, and 'autobiographical' sketch. In Chapter VI we are told about "... a mere entry of latitude and longitude, as 62.2888 degrees, 19.0444 degrees ..." Typing these coordinates into Google Earth identifies a location in the North Atlantic Ocean about 115km south of Iceland - pretty chilly for buccaneers! Switching the numbers lands 150km northeast of the island of St. Martin, in the Leeward Islands, of the Caribbean Sea - a more likely location for hidden treasure. If you enjoyed this tale download "The Cruise of the Esmeralda" by Harry Collingwood (1851-1922) and "Under Drake's Flag" by George A. Henty (1832-1902) from the Internet Archive.
