I enjoyed this novel, partly because I did a lot of growing up in New Mexico -- Santa Fe and Albuquerque -- and the story is set there, making me a bit homesick. The story itself is engaging, even as bits of it stretch believability. What are the chances that some of the things that happen could actually happen? Pretty big coincidences. But I got totally sucked into the lives of the characters and found myself caring about them, a lot. I have read other novels by Jo-Ann Mapson and I recommend reading them in chronological order of their publication date; this one has characters from another novel of hers and that novel takes place later in time. It was slightly weird reading about the earlier lives of some of the characters, knowing what happens to them later. I recommend this author.
