This is an Australian movie. Sometimes POSH people speak with pretentitous British accents as was the custom for educated people back in the day or are simply British people who have immigrated to Australia. One problem with modern Aussie films is that they get funding by the Film Commission based on only a treatment. This makes for many films with a fairly interesting concept but no plot fleshed out and no effort needed at good screenwriting. This played at Cannes, so there is a demand for this movie regardless of its amateurish quality, so I don't blame the library staff for this experience. Julia Leigh is WAY overrated as a writer and director. I didn't realize until the end that it was her work or I would have parachuted earlier. I have seen some gushing reviews of this really awful movie. Very Emporer's New Clothes. I suspect it justifies their interest in seeing some pretty young thing (such lovely skin) talk dirty and get her kit off as FINE ART. Too bad this movie is neither sexy nor intellectual. My least favorite part of this was the pretentious unedited lecturing by the old gent who later appears in the final scene. I watched the whole thing only to see if the ending would be as non-existent as I expected. Sigh. Wooden acting, blank looks, and repetitious dialogue is meant to pass as mythic depth. And rather than expending the effort to write something ACTUALLY meaningful, the sloppy plotlines are left dangling in an effort to be profoundly COOLER THAN THOU. Like- don't you GET it? Um. No. No, I don't.
