While on her way home one night, newspaper editor Frances Thorpe stops at the scene of a car crash and witnesses the last moments of a dying woman. Wanting to offer comfort to the woman's loved ones, and having learned that the husband left behind is none other than literary legend Laurence Kyte, a famous novelist who travels in the highest of England's social circles, Frances visits the family. Whether what happens next is accidental or carefully planned is for you to figure out, but nevertheless, Frances has much to gain from her new association with the Kyte family. "This is a gem," enthuses Kirkus Reviews of this novel, which "bewitches with its undertones of implied meanings and carefully hidden secrets." Fiction A to Z newsletter January 2013.
