Rebel cop, Sledge Hammer is everyone's favorite trigger-happy lawman and a one man crusade against crime. His extreme, unorthodox methods which include, firing warning shots at jaywalkers, dragging suspects around parking lots by his rear bumper until they confess, blasting a building-demolishing bazooka shot at a sniper, and talking to his .44 Magnum have gotten him suspended from the force more times than he can remember, but he gets results!

Sledge Hammer was a curiosity of mine. Ever since I was little and my Mom had taped a show off of ABC during 1988 and I caught a commercial for it during one of the breaks, it always seemed like something I had to eventually watch. I finally got that opportunity in 2017. I watched the complete 1st Season of Sledge Hammer and I enjoyed it. Alan Spencer, the creator of the show had a vast knowledge and upbringing in comedy, he actually snuck onto the set of 20th Century Fox while Mel Brooks was filming 'Young Frankenstein' and the late Marty Feldman took Alan under his wing during the filming. Alan took great inspiration from Mel Brooks especially with the creation of the hit spy comedy TV series, 'Get Smart', so much that the very first episode of Sledge Hammer is pretty much like watching a revival of the series!

However, it was apparent that during the 2nd season, ideas were starting to fizzle and the studio was pressuring Alan and his team for more broad comedy scripts. Hey man, it wwas the 80s what'd you expect? Although the bulk of the show's 2nd season is forgettable, the series overall was a nice watch and a chance to see just what a young man who was able to get a full view of making comedies was like in the 70s to create his own in the 80s.

Crazy!!! David Rasche is totally convincing as a kooky Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry character.
Love It1
