Known for making up his own rules of right and wrong, Texas Ranger Sam "Wildcard" MacGregor takes what he wants when he wants it, especially when it comes to women. But seduction is the last thing on his mind the moment he stumbles across an Hispanic beauty crouching in fear beside a burned-out wagon. And it doesn't take long before he realizes the woman the townsfolk call "cursed" is hiding secrets too dangerous to face alone.

Isabella may look feminine and unassuming, but she's hell in a bodice with gunslinging skills to match any man's. But though she knows not to give Sam her heart as readily as she offers him her lush body, Isabella is certain she sees in Sam what he can barely glimpse in himself--a virtuous man dropped deep into a hard country bent on breaking him. A man who, under it all, craves a passionate woman willing to risk everything...

I wish I could say this book was all good...but I can't. The action was on point, there was plenty of that...but the sex was a bit forceful for me. She was too desperate....and I don't like that in my female characters. I can't give a book five stars just for the sex . Overall not a bad read.

7/08 - This was even better than Caine's Reckoning. The banter between Sam and Bella was great, especially Bella's misuse of common phrases, which Sam constantly had to correct. I was a little disappointed to find there was almost nothing revolving around the rest of Hell's Eight, Caine and Desi weren't in the book except as an offhand mention. That's why I love a series, because you get to see how the previous couples have progressed, so I missed that component in this book. OMG this had what must be some of the longest sex scenes ever written, 100 pages and more. If you counted the pages I reckon over half of the book would be made up of the three main sex scenes. Don't worry, despite their length the sex scenes were still very steamy, it wasn't like you got halfway through and you were going "Ho-hum. When is this going to end?", by the end I still wanted more and I can't believe I have to wait till 2014 for the 3rd book in the series - I want to read it now.
