Julie and Nick

Nicolai is a vampire sex slave to a witch princess and has neither memories of his life before, nor a sense of how long he has been there. Unbenknownst to him, he is the crown prince of Elden, and on the night of their murders his parents each cast a spell on their four children: the queen sent them far from the palace to safety and the king gave them a burning need for vengeance against the Blood Sorcerer for their deaths. Nicolai has somehow summoned the human Jane Porter to his world to help him escape. He doesn't know what is so special about her, but Nicolai quickly realizes that his need for Jane outstrips even his need for revenge.
This was a very absorbing read, and I can't wait to read the rest of the Royal House of Shadows series. It's been a while, but I always enjoy Gena Showalter's paranormal romances. She definitely had me on edge with the ogres, and there were plenty of interesting twists throughout. While the story takes place over a relatively short time span, a lot of action and character development get crammed in. The speed of their bonding makes more sense after we learn that they had a previous relationship. I still have questions about how Jane transported back to Nicolai's world the first and last times, but I suspect I will never get those answers. Not sure if I would read it again, but definitely glad I picked it up.
