Zora Neal Hurston is a much over looked southern black author, novelist, historian, graduate anthropologist & entertainer. 1891 to 1960. She is getting known again after years in obscurity. In my humble opinion, she is as good as James Baldwin or some of the other later black authors to gain notoriety. Hurston is comparative with other southern authors. Seraph on the Suwanne concerns white folks in a small town in Florida during the 1900s to late 1940s. What insight. Seraph is a high ranking angel. Suwanee refers to the famous Suwanee River in the old tune "Way down up the Suwanee River". I liked Seraph on the Suwanee so much that I would buy it. I am encouraged to read Hurston's other books. She has also directed movies. It is a shame her talents were so discounted and negated in her lifetime only to be rediscovered by people like Mia Angelou and Alice Walker.
